Value-Added Products and The Farmers’ Feast

Common Hands Farm makes several delicious value-added products with our crops, inspired by preserving the bounty of our season, and produced by our friend chef Benjamin of The Farmers’ Feast. We sell these products at our booths at the farmers markets, and to local stores and wholesale buyers. Our Field Salt can be shipped nationally.

Benjamin Bruckenthal, owner/founder of The Farmers’ Feast, is a trained chef with nearly a decade of professional restaurant experience.

His adoration for cooking has evolved over time, beginning with summers spent slinging BEC sandwiches at his father’s bagel shop at the age of 12, to a college career of dorm room dinner parties and blog posts about the campus dining services. After culinary school he spent several years in the realm of fine dining and even landed on the Food Network show Chopped. Check out the episode, “Gimme Gator”, circa 2017.

Fast forward to the Spring 2020, after having lived in Columbia County for a few years, Benjamin was eager to learn more about local agriculture. He joined the farm crew of Common Hands Farm and decided to take a ride on the “rural side”. After much conversation and some planning, Benjamin and the partners of Common Hands Farm, Dan McManus and Keri-Sue Lewis, decided to collaborate on the development of a hyper-local farm based value added product line. Products have included seasoned herb salts, vinegar vegetable pickles, salad dressings, hot sauces, lacto-fermented vegetable condiments and the famed garlic-chili crisp.

By the end of 2020, Benjamin formalized his culinary venture as, The Farmers’ Feast Inc., with the goal of developing dynamic partnerships with local farms in order to  preserve the abundance of the harvestable season. The Farmers’ Feast Inc. seeks to celebrate the bounty of the Hudson River Valley by sourcing quality ingredients grown and harvested exclusively from the region and transforming them into restaurant quality condiments and sauces.

Benjamin currently lives in Hudson, NY with his partner Anna and their son Otto.

We hope you enjoy all of our recipes and look forward to hearing about your experiences.
